This September, Freehold Boro’s Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country Teams started their season strong! With 3 races down, both teams have shown fantastic results.
From the Battle of Ocean, freshman Izzy Tumminelli started her season strong, earning her first medal in the Girls Frosh 2 Mile Race, placing 25th overall with a time of 14:41. Izzy leaves the month of September with 2 medals and an amazing start to her high school career.
One of our returning seniors, Steven Lopez Blaz, leads the way for the Boys’ Team, placing 12th overall, with a time of 16:35, earning his spot once again on the Top 10 Leader Board! Most recently, at Thompson Park’s Class Meet, sophomore Alejandro Ramirez-Conde placed 10th, running an 18:00 5k. His effort and hard work shine through in his races and in his practices.
5 medals were brought home from the Thompson Class Meet: from Steven Lopez Blaz, Camryn Nelius, Amanda Tournor, Alejandro Ramirez-Conde and Izzy Tumminelli.
“I am proud of all of my girls, they work hard, and it makes me so happy to see our practices pay off,” Coach Agabiti of the Girls’ Team says. Her patience and her hours of dedication put into the team have brought a fantastic group of girls together, who constantly grow and strive to bring each other up.
“Leave it all out on the course, this is your race,” is something that the Boys’ coach, Todd Liebman, has said countless times. It is inspiring to see that through every obstacle, as a runner and as a coach, he wants to see his boys succeed, and his strength and attitude never go unnoticed.
Above all, Freehold Boro’s Cross Country Teams run with heart, motivation, and determination. Every member of the team makes a difference, and every runner counts. Cross Country is more than a sport, it is a lifelong bond. Some schools may run for a title, or a plaque, or a medal. But we run for ourselves. We run against our own times, we run for each other, and we run together.
