Forest

The thick green landscape
extends itself all around,
and as a lonely figure slowly approaches,
a tree branch falls without a sound–

And as it falls down to the ground,
in the distance a silent deer starts
and with a noiseless rustle,
a flock of birds, black in the sky, departs.

The shadowed man heavily stops his gait
in front of the tree he had been trudging toward,
his presence hardly causing a disturbance in the forest,
but within him it strikes a chord,

As he stands before the ancient twisted tree
with the double u shaped branches
and looks back upon the days when on the branches sitting
he and she both took their chances.

An illness, long and painful,
from each other had taken them away,
and forty years later all he had left of her was this tree
on a silent windy day.
