The Start of the Best Time of Year

Many teenagers have a negative connotation attached to the month of September. It marks the beginning of a new school year, and the end of summer. To me, though, September has a completely different meaning. There are so many reasons why September is the beginning of the greatest time of year. The months following September are some of the best months in the year. Think about it: first comes high school football games. There’s nothing better than Friday Night Lights, or Saturday Afternoon Lights, for the Colonials. Part of the full high school experience is attending football games and partaking in themes and cheers. Not to mention college football and the NFL both begin in September too. Then there’s October: the leaves start to turn from green to orange, red, and yellow. There are so many fun activities to do in October, such as apple picking, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, and hayrides. Not to mention Halloween! The thought of dressing up and going trick or treating, or to a Halloween party and having a great time can make anyone excited for October. There’s nothing better than going to a haunted house or watching scary movies with your friends. And picking out the perfect costume is something you only get to do once a year! After Halloween comes Thanksgiving: a day for families to come together and enjoy some of the most delicious food. Thanksgiving is a special day because people reflect on all the blessings they have in their lives, and spend much needed time with family and close friends. Not to mention, the food is top tier. Once Thanksgiving is over, the best 4 weeks of the year begin. Christmas is the warmest time of the year (even though it’s the winter). It’s the time where fuzzy socks are worn, warm cookies are eaten, and hot cocoa is drunk. Not to mention the Christmas activities – such as buying a tree and decorating it, watching Christmas movies, putting up Christmas lights, and going to see light shows. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are two of the happiest days of the year. Spending time with family, giving and receiving gifts, and just the overall happiness make for such great memories. Then just like that, it’s all over.
