Chinese New Year is celebrated on February 10th this year. 2024 is the year of the Dragon, the Dragon is the fifth in the Chinese zodiac cycle. For those born in 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, 2024, and so on, their Chinese zodiac sign would be the Dragon.

It’s an important time of year, where people take off work for a few days to reunite and celebrate festivities with their family. And obviously, there will be a bunch of delicious foods to eat! So, here is a list of some of my favorite foods to eat during Chinese New Year:

  1. Dumplings – symbolizes luck and wealth
  2. Longevity Noodles – symbolizes happiness and longevity
  3. Fruits – such as tangerines and oranges – symbolize good fortune
  4. Tang Yuan (Glutinous Rice Balls) – symbolizes family reunion and togetherness
  5. Nian Gao (“Year Cake” – Glutinous Rice Cake) – symbolizes a higher income or position
  6. Whole Chicken (sounds similar to the word “prosperity” in Chinese) – symbolizes luck and unity
