Q: What made you want to join wrestling, and how do you feel about it?
A: I wanted to become more involved with the school community, and I felt that wrestling was the perfect way to be part of a sport and get good exercise at the same time. Now that the season is over, I feel really proud of myself for taking the jump and trying something new.
Q: Do you see yourself continuing wrestling throughout high school?
A: Of course, I would like to continue working on my craft and improving as both a wrestler and an individual.
Q: Do you think wrestling was worth joining?
A: Yes, wrestling was definitely worth joining because I got to meet new people and get involved with a new, unfamiliar sport.
Q: What does a normal practice look like for you?
A: A normal practice involves lots of physical demand. Usually, we start with a warm-up, such as running up and down the stairs, then we head into the wrestling room, get into our gear, drill moves, and go live for the next hour and a half.
Q: What is the most difficult part, physically and mentally?
A: The most difficult part, physically and mentally, is when you’re exhausted, and Coach is starting to yell out the next move that you have to drill, and you just have to tell yourself to keep going and not give up.
Q: How do you balance your schoolwork and other responsibilities?
A: If I have free time during school, I try to finish my homework during those hours, and whenever I come back from practice, I sit down and do whatever homework needs to be finished.
Q: What motivates you through all your games and practices?
A: The main thing that motivates me is that I am lucky enough to get the opportunity to wrestle and just have a great time.
Q: What has been your favorite part so far?
A: My favorite part so far has been meeting new people and making so many new friends who are also very enthusiastic about Wrestling.
Q: Have you learned any skills that help you outside of wrestling? If so, what skills?
A: Yes, I’ve learned many new skills that can be applied outside of Wrestling. Whether that’s time management, communication skills, or decision-making skills, every lesson and takeaway that Wrestling has taught me can help me with my life in the future.
Q: How do you prepare yourself for important matches?
A: Whenever I have a match coming up, I try not to put more pressure on myself than is needed and just try to focus on the fact that I’m here to have fun and improve as a wrestler.
Q: What advice would you give a person looking to join wrestling?
A: One piece of advice that I would give someone who is looking into joining Wrestling is that it’s very important to show up to every single practice, whether that’s preseason or the regular season, because any chance you can get to put in work is going to help you way more than you can imagine in the long run.
