As the fall sports come to an end, I want to take this time to shed light on a hardworking student-athlete. For this interview, I will be talking to Juliette Macri, a three-year varsity athlete and now a captain of the girls’ field hockey team of 2025. Even in her senior year, Macri’s dedication and passion for the sport help push her and her teammates to new heights.
When did you start playing field hockey? – and why did you start?
“I started playing field hockey in my sophomore year of high school. I started playing field hockey because I wanted to be a part of a team, and I had a couple of friends on the team, so I decided to join.”
What has being a student athlete taught you?
“Being a student athlete has taught me that it takes a lot of commitment and dedication. It can get stressful at times, but in the end, it’s all worth it.”
How has your role switched now that you are one of the Captains?
“Becoming a captain of the field hockey team has taught me that I need to lead by example for all of the other girls on the team. It has shown me that working hard pays off.”
How did it feel when you were announced as “Defensive Player of the Week” by NJ.com picks?
“When I found out that I was announced as the defensive player of the week, I was actually very surprised. In my opinion, I always felt that defensive players don’t get recognized because they aren’t the ones scoring goals, but when I found out, I got that award, I felt as if all my hard work wasn’t going unnoticed.”
