This June, voters all across the state will file to the poll booths to place their vote in the primary election. Primary elections where nominees are chosen for the Democratic and Republican candidates who will compete in the general election in November.
In New Jersey, all twelve seats in the House of Representatives are up for election, and one seat in the Senate (which is currently held by Cory Booker (D)).
While the midterm general elections are a “check” on the approval of the majority party, primaries are often a check on the approval of all incumbent candidates.
Senate Seat:
For the Democratic Primary, incumbent Cory Booker is running unopposed and will face the Republican nominee in November.
For the Republican Primary, the following people are running:
- Richard Tabor
- Justin Murphy
- Alex Zdan
- Robert Lebovics
House Seats:
Our district comprises Congressional Districts 3 and 4, so that is what we’ll focus on.
District 3:
For the Democratic Primary, incumbent Herbert Conaway Jr. is running unopposed and will face the Republican nominee in November.
For the Republican Primary, the following people are running:
- Michael McGuire
- Jason Cullen
- Justin Barbera
District 4:
For the Democratic Primary, the following people are running:
- Rachel Peace
- John Blake
For the Republican Primary, incumbent Christopher Smith is running unopposed and will face the Democratic nominee in November.
The primary election is on June 6th, 2026. You must be registered to vote at least 21 days before the election date if you’d like to be able to vote.
NEW THIS YEAR: You can vote in the primary election if you are 17 years old, as long as you will be 18 years old by Election Day.
