There is a time every year when winter finally goes. The last amount of snow melts off the grass, the air loses that cold feeling, and somewhere between February and March, spring comes in. The days last longer than people remember. But longer days mean something else too: the smell of fresh grass, the sounds of birds that were all gone during the winter, the feeling of walking outside without a jacket. The trees were dead and grey for months, now they come back to bright and lively. Petals end up all over the place, then gone in a few days with a breeze. The evenings get long enough to actually do something with. The kind time where it is 7 o’clock and the sky is still light and it feels like the day is giving you extra time you didn’t ask for but are happy to have. Windows get opened. Somewhere nearby, someone is outside, either playing or mowing grass. Spring didn’t ask if you’re ready. It just arrived. But if you look up long enough to notice it, there’s a lot of worth enjoying, before the heat comes in and summer takes over.
