On the weekend of April 24th, delegates from Freehold High School’s Youth and Government club attended the NJYAG Conference at the Hilton East Brunswick Convention Center! Delegates came prepared with bills on a variety of topics. Delegates debated topics such as education, healthcare, and public safety.
On the first day, all the delegates presented their bills in specialized committees. Presentations included an opening statement, pro/con debate, and a closing statement. Many delegates’ bills made it out of committee, and some even passed in their respective chambers (Senate or Assembly) on Saturday and Sunday!
At the closing ceremony, many delegates from Freehold were recognized for their hard work.
Angelyn Gonzalez was awarded the award for Best Written Legislation
Rodrigo Duenas and Daniel Dempsey were awarded the Courts Team with the Best Written Brief
Rodrigo was also selected as a delegate to the Conference on National Affairs.
Matthew Kouveliotes was selected as an Alternate Nominee to the Conference on National Affairs.
As a whole, the delegation was recognized as an Outstanding Delegation and was awarded the Golden Gavel Award, an award only one delegation at the conference received!
